Speaker 1:

You're traveling to another podcast, a podcast not only of voices and sounds, but of mind, a journey of strange stories and occurrences that cannot be explained. Your next stop the Powers Point Podcast.

Speaker 2:

Well, hello, hello, welcome to Powers Point Podcast Season 5. I'm gandering at this. Yeah, episode 18. All right, I'm your host, scott Powers, and with me on the other end of this, in his own little world, is the other host, jim Banks, in the dimension that.

Speaker 2:

I call my home so we usually talk about our topic that we're going to discuss today around halloween, but there's just too much stuff going on that you know. You and I we sat last week and had breakfast for the restaurant review and I mentioned something and then, lo and behold, we had our topic for today the paranormal. I had a few stories and you have a few stories. You know, while I record this, some weird things happen Already Not at this moment, and I won't hear it until I edit and then it'll be so low on the wave form that when I highlight it and then I raise the decibels on it, then it comes through, which is really weird. Kaylee told me that I should leave the microphone all night on when I go to work just to see what's going on in this room. You know, because the wife has picked up on spirits down here.

Speaker 1:

I've seen some crazy things down here, so you might just be a conduit into the other realm and you're recording somehow the frequency. You've got it timed perfectly.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'm not trying to time it perfectly because I don't want them to know that I know they're here and I'm not inviting them into my house. No, don't, anything's around here, you're not allowed in here. Them into my house. So no, don't, answer, anything's around here, you're not allowed in here. So, uh, this is my own zone, the podcast zone.

Speaker 2:

You and I we talked about, uh, you know, your hobert exercise and learning a new city and you know, like I was just like looking through old towns that can compare to Ground Point or Hobart I'm sorry, ground Point pops in my head and there's so much stuff around us that people might not know. Even people that live here may not know. Coming up in the future, you and I discussed maybe taking out a video camera and going to some of these places and just putting them out on YouTube and doing like a whole different version of the podcast, a little walking talk, yeah, and then everybody will get to see like the history, because, man, it is super Mabba heavy in this area. You know, we might even find a dead body at Wolf Lake. Oh my God, shut your filthy mouth. Might even find a dead body at wolf lake, oh my god, yeah, yeah, wolf mansion and portage indiana, which, uh, the movie, uh, with dan ackroyd and digital underground and chevy chase nothing but trouble. Yeah, nothing but trouble. Yeah, they used wolf mansion in that movie again, some crazy haunted house around us.

Speaker 2:

We have a place called not around me, but lake station, halbert area, gary. There's a road called stagecoach road. Yeah, that's a big one. What's the gravity hill in valparaiso, where the school bus crash killed the kids? So then, if you park your vehicle at the bottom of the hill and you take your foot off the gas and just put neutral, your car goes uphill because it's the bodies of the kids pushing, oh, my car up the hill yeah, this sounds like stuff that was told to us as kids right, and you know I want to go to all these places, so I want to be scared.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I want to be scared, but leave everything that's everywhere else, not come home with me. Yeah, or you, you know, I don't know if you want them at the house, but I know just shat your pants there and then just leave your pants and just run home.

Speaker 1:

So what else has been going on? Man, not much just pairing jimmy's summer vacation, uh, school over with and, uh, drop them off at grandma's and stuff, and then he's going to want to do a lot of stuff with friends, have like friends come over and stuff, and they have to start planning all that.

Speaker 2:

It seems like summer break gets here faster and faster. Yeah, you know, it was just a dead of winter. You know e-learning and everything going on. It seems like the pandemic was so long ago.

Speaker 1:

It does. It seems like we're just talking at work like that. It seemed like that was 10 years ago or something, but it wasn't. It was just a couple of years ago, but during the pandemic it felt like it was 10 years worth of suffering and stuff.

Speaker 2:

You know, like animals were coming out that don't usually come out and wandering the streets. You know, because there was no people.

Speaker 1:

Animals and plagues and stuff.

Speaker 2:

Right. So now they say that there's some really heavy crazy bird flu coming around and people are actually dying in Australia for this thing.

Speaker 1:

I already read that in our area in Indiana there's something called a new weed. It's like a big. I can't remember what it's called. Hold on just a minute. We're really prepared for this. I know we're terrible. We're old men with phones and internets. What's going on here?

Speaker 2:

I don't know how to push buttons.

Speaker 1:

Powers, point what?

Speaker 2:

You know I knew about powers once lunch. I plan on doing this to the day. I check out man off and then I already got like people trained, it's okay, it's called a hogweed.

Speaker 1:

A hogweed you say hogweed, it's some kind of a giant weed. It looks it's like a white topped, kind of like a parasol, like kind of little parts, and it's supposed to like get on you and stuff and then, with your sweat and the sun and three things like activate it inside you or something, it starts like spreading and like going crazy on you and stuff. I don't know what I I got scared looking at it because I always cut the cut the grass and I accidentally bump up in the gut against something growing and I'm like like what was that? Is that going to make me freak out and like spots all over me or something?

Speaker 2:

Right, you get ragged weed on you. You know my grandfather used to think it was funny. He'd have me run through the bushes and he knew that like itching powder stuff was back there. And he thought that was the funniest thing in the world, you know. But then that's the guy that would tell me that, hey, can you pick that wire up by the fence? And then I go to grab it for him and it's electric.

Speaker 1:

So that was my way into the electric stun gun stuff. Our grandparents would just be like if you get a rash or something, I'll just like electrocute it. I'll just slap some peanut butter on it, You'll be fine.

Speaker 2:

Right, you know, like another one was like oh, I burned myself. Well, let's put mustard on it. And I did. You know, it's like when you get really bad cramps. Yeah, I never do this, but you take a mustard packet and you like, eat the mustard and the cramps go away. Man, really, yeah, almost like 30 seconds in there, they're done, gone.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to have to try that because I get. I get some cramps sometimes.

Speaker 2:

When you, especially in your feet or your legs, and you jump on a bed, you're like, oh, oh, oh, oh, you know. So when you go to a restaurant, like a hot dog place man, grab some extra mustard packets and take them home with you and put them in a medicine cabinet oh, my God, I'm going to have to. So when we come back from this commercial, we're going to talk about the paranormal. We will check it out. Hey y'all, this is Bridget Tatum and you're listening to the Powers Point Podcast. So, jim, paranormal, yes.

Speaker 2:

So, like I said that at the beginning, you know I record these podcasts and I see a little like a little glitch in the sound wave and that's all it looks like. And if, if you just listen to it normal, you don't hear it, so then you highlight it and you raise the decibels and then it's a whole new world because you start hearing things. The first time that I heard this like recently is on the Sisters from Different Misters, the Trish and Sarah show, and at 21 minutes and 45 seconds in, if you listen, you'll hear Trish say like, hey, like that. And as soon as you hear that, you'll hear somebody with a really deep voice say hey, there. You know, like, yeah, and it's really weird, and I I kept highlighting it over and over, you know, and I'm like whose voice is that?

Speaker 2:

Because I was sitting on my deck yeah, nobody around and uh, I was the only guy I kept playing well, hello there. Well, hello there. Well, hello there. Oh my god. And it happened so fast that when you're listening to it normal, you might even I even like turn the decibels up and recorded it into the show. If they're not paying attention, you overlook that. And then same show at the 35 minutes six second mark, there's some laughing going on. And then you hear, like this gremlin voice, like like chattering, like when I think of Hellraiser, and hear the chattering oh, no, no, it's like a gremlin, weird noise man. That's weird. I wonder if I can pull it up on my phone.

Speaker 1:

Are you sure it wasn't your old blind dog behind you?

Speaker 2:

No, because I can't see the hawks or anything, so I don't take him out.

Speaker 1:

I love how you first said he doesn't go outside and you didn't. The first thing wasn't he doesn't speak, hello ladies. No, no, he says that, jim, but you know, he just doesn't get up hello ladies.

Speaker 2:

There's been countless times when I like I think I even have a folder on my computer that says ghost.

Speaker 1:

I don't know what the voices are, man, and it's really weird Save them, and then you could be on those ghost shows and, like I have, proof.

Speaker 2:

I'm trying to find the time on this thing.

Speaker 1:

I'll have to let you know if anything in the background of your room like moves or like the curtains or something. Oh, don't say that, man Scott.

Speaker 2:

I'll do like Abern Costell I'm going to cut, don't say that, man scott, I'll do like abram costello, I'm gonna, I'm gonna cut this, but tighter framing, yeah, well, here, uh, whenever you hear it yeah, I heard it, listen, listen as soon as she goes your chest up to your head so you're not moving as much often because it's just tighter framing yeah, well here.

Speaker 2:

uh, when you read are when you read this oh my God, what that's weird man, oh my God. And then like why would I say, well, hey there. And like when we're already like 23 minutes into the show, oh my God, that's creepy. And then I'm like blind as a bat dude One. The. I'm like blind as a bat dude One the first time To be to pick that up, you know. So he has to start as a 30. He could lie and he gets out of that. Yeah, liar, liar.

Speaker 1:

Hey Whoa.

Speaker 2:

And he gets out of that. Yeah, I'm, that will be liar liar. Oh, my God.

Speaker 1:

So it's some crazy man. That's weird. There was another like uh, the burger house episode I showed I played it for jimmy and it sounded like twice in there that you or me doing a laugh or we were saying I was saying something and it sounded like I was going like like I was throwing up like this demon your soul. Yeah, it sounded like, and was going like like I was throwing up like this demon. Yeah, it sounded like, and he was like what the hell just happened? I was like I don't know.

Speaker 2:

The burger exercised you, it scared me. What like? What do you think of these voices, man, or what's? What's going on?

Speaker 1:

here. I don't know, did you switch over from a program to a new program or something at this time?

Speaker 2:

Nope, I've been using the same program for the last six years.

Speaker 1:

I don't know, we're going to have to get some people at your house or some spiritual priestess or something with some tambourines and candles or something, and get some, definitely some sage. Yeah, something.

Speaker 2:

I'm just looking here. I can't see. I was going to come over now. I'm questioning it. People, oh, oh, there you are up there now. Yeah, it's just really weird, man and playing this day, you know, like the way there, but the I can't even do that, whatever that other that I can't even. Yeah, like it's weird. And the other two are talking. So this is them.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, oh, my god, we have to have the listeners. Whoever's listening. If they could spot stuff, too, let us know so we can like make a whole playlist of it you know, I like, I think it's on my head, but then I keep going and then I'm like you could take some. You could take these sounds and make like, uh, take them and isolate them and make them into like one of your beat songs you make or something and have like the creepy sounds coming through the song and stuff Like oh, choo-choo, rah, ga-ga-ga-ga.

Speaker 2:

You know what it is. That'd be really weird man. That would be weird Called your spooky mix. I thought I made a folder man called Ghost, but it's gone now.

Speaker 1:

They didn't want to be known. It's the sound of you and Patrick Swayze making clay.

Speaker 2:

Is he behind me or am I behind him? Oh, somebody is demi moore's man in the corner oh, man, yeah, so these are just like my paranormal experiences, man, lately. And yeah, and it's some weird stuff, man, you know, it doesn't scare me, it's just it's there so I've got any.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I've had. Well, not me. I got two from my wife. Okay, this happened to her. Okay, the first one. It's titled hold that door. Okay, and I have to read these. Okay, because I? Because she was just telling me the stories back a month after her dad died. Her name is mer.

Speaker 1:

She came home late. The house was dark. Mom's car was in the driveway. Burr unlocked the deadbolt and the regular lock. She went to open the door. She turned the handle but could not move the door. It felt like someone was holding the door. She turned the handle but could not move the door. It felt like someone was holding the door from the inside shut. She felt pressure on the door. She thought it was her mom because both of them had played the prank before on each other holding the door and then the other one's trying to get in.

Speaker 1:

She then got upset and then she shouldered the door open and it, the door flung open and hit the microwave table behind the door bang.

Speaker 1:

The thing is, no one was inside there in the kitchen, no one. That's weird. She then walked into her, walked in, only to find her mom in the living room 25 feet away. There was just a hallway to the living room, 25 feet away, in the recliner, fully reclined with the cat on her lap face and the tv was facing the opposite wall of the kitchen all the way farther. So the back, her back, was in the recliner, back to the door which when that merlene hit the table with the door, her mom sat up and started cussing and the cat like freaked out. So she's saying her mom couldn't have held the door open and at her age and ran back into the recliner and had the feet up in the recliner with the cat on her. And she said the door open and at her age and ran back into the recliner and had the feet up in the recliner with the cat on her and she said the door never stuck before and it never stuck after.

Speaker 2:

Somebody may be playing jokes with her.

Speaker 1:

She's thinking she's thinking yeah, she was thinking it was her dad.

Speaker 2:

Okay, and let them know. Hey, I'm still here.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and it was like it was like a month after he passed, her and her mom were just like. You know what Merlene said she swears on her life that someone was holding that door and she turned the handle and everything and it just it was all unlocked. Oh man, that's crazy. And then the next one, next story is titled Papa and Mama's Picture.

Speaker 1:

Okay, and this was grandma, and grandma's yeah, uh, merlene's her father's parents, uh, her stepbrother and sister is called, uh, the grandpa and grandma, mama and papa, okay, okay. So, uh it, her dad has passed and it's just merlene and her mom living at the house. Her mom goes out of town for a couple days to visit someone yeah, out of town and that the next day Merlene's friend comes over to her house. Merlene looks at the wall and takes down her picture of her mamaw and papaw from the wall. It looks creepy. It looks like that old American Gothic painting with the farmer and the pitchfork and that and this was taken like in the early 60s it's a black and white picture of her grandparents. So the grandpa has overalls and the grandma has like a. It's just their bust up sitting down, okay, and the grandma looks all like mad and upset. That her picture is, you know, taken, but Merlene just hated that picture. It's all creepy.

Speaker 2:

As they are from that time frame.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and Merlene's like not sentimental with that stuff, she's like I'm just. She takes it down from the wall and puts it behind the couch or something. Ok, merlene then leaves with her friend out for a couple hours, like 6 pm to 9 pm or something. They come back, there's a message on the answering machine and in a deep, angry, gravelly voice a voice says put the picture back. So then they screamed.

Speaker 1:

The friend went home and Merlene was just on the other side of the house not messing with that picture. Merlene left the picture alone. She was too afraid and she avoided where it was and stuff. And I guess her mom came home a couple of days later and Merlene asked did you call here? And she, merlene said her mom said no, merlene played the message for her in that that voice and Merlene's mom said that's not me and she said now cut it out. Did you have someone call here? And Merlene said no, I didn't have anybody call. She's like I've been in my friend's house and this was back when there was no cell phones, no cameras in your house, that picture down, and merlene's friend was the only one there when that picture came down and then they heard the message right when they got home. So who called? Whose voice was that that told them to put that picture back up?

Speaker 2:

yeah, that's.

Speaker 2:

Uh, that's creepy man she she don't know if it was, you know, her dad, or I don't know one of the most haunted places in northwest indiana and a lot of people don't even know this, but it's Purdue University in Hammond, yes, and I used to do security rounds there, and so my wife would like to come there at nighttime and walk through with me just to feel the vibe, because I was like this teacher killed himself and he's still hanging out there. They're like this teacher killed himself and he's still hanging out there and they're like nuh-uh. And so, like I was going to go swipe some food at the good security guard here, I was going to go swipe some food in the kitchen and the microwave started like dialing in on the teep, teep, teep, teep, oh my God. And then the other time I was sitting in the hallway and it's a long hallway and it's got like bulletin boards up all the way down the hall where people go post stuff and you know, like babysitters and wanted, and I was waiting for my boss to come. You know, suddenly it sounded like somebody was running down the hallway towards me and I could see the papers moving on the oh my God, they were moving as it was coming close to me. I'm like I'm getting the F out of here and I called my boss because he had some things happen to him. Yeah, I was like I'll meet you on the other side of the street, dude, I don't even want to be by the building.

Speaker 2:

But the one time my wife was, we were just checking the locks and make sure the classrooms are locked up and so people don't go in there. And my wife's like, oh, here's this room, it's open, and all of a sudden the door pulled itself out of her hand real hard and slammed itself. Oh my. And then it locked. No way, yeah man, oh my God, it's like you can't lock it from the inside because it's illegal. You can only lock it from the outside. It opened up for it and it just like yanked out of her hand, you know, and just boom, real hard.

Speaker 1:

No, you would have seen an outline of my body. I would have been down the hall already.

Speaker 2:

You know, when a teacher killed himself, one of our wrestling friends, he's the one that had to clean it up. Oh no, oh my God, oh, gabe, gabe the brave, oh yeah, man. So you know, I checked the one building. It's the library. The library is the worst place there. I checked the whole building. Nobody was there, not one person, you know. And then, as I was driving away to go to the next building, there was an old man in the window waving. Oh, dang.

Speaker 1:

Oh bye, good luck, goodbye Never coming back, man.

Speaker 2:

So, like, I try not to go in that building, you know, and myself, and they have an upstairs library on the third floor and it's not really for people to go in there, you know, it's, yeah, like just where, like expensive books are and I start seeing them coming off the shelf. Oh my god, dude, this is like movies and stuff that you see, dude, 1,000% man. And you start feeling like somebody's standing on your chest, your breathing's like you just know you do not belong in this room. It's kind of like that vibe. And then on the wall, in the frame it's a huge frame they have the original newspaper from the day after Lincoln died. That was the paper wrestling lincoln dead. It's a real cool paper. It's the original, yeah, and that kind of moves.

Speaker 2:

So stay away from the library in purdue. Oh, man, I'm not going there, not that I've been there. It's weird. I used to have another wrestling friend walk through there, man, because I did not like to go through there by myself. And you know, like when you see things out the corner of your eye, you're like, was that really the air? Was it not there, or is it my imagination? But when the other person says, hey, there's somebody there. Yeah, and you already seen that out the corner of your eye and they're no longer there.

Speaker 1:

Oh, man Dude, I got to go to bed after this. All right, stop telling me stories.

Speaker 2:

But yeah, I believe in the stuff, I believe in intelligent, different forms of spirits and that there might be a good possibility, something happening out there, but we just don't know what.

Speaker 2:

You know, I think it's also comforting when you lose a parent and then they come to you. You know. It's kind of like, hey, I'm OK. Yeah, nothing's more comforting than to know that. Yeah, my sister used to cry, like I told you at breakfast last weekend. She was gone a couple months but all she did was come to my room, sit on my bed and just cry, cry, cry and it ended up pissing me off after a while. So I told her to shut the F up, you know, because it was keeping me up. You know like I sleep now, you know. But it's like, yeah, or you'll see shadows moving around underneath my parents' door. There was a little girl that died in their house and she pops up every now and then.

Speaker 1:

Oh, my gosh.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I think you attract bad spirits, sir, I can't say they're bad because I'm not hurt. I've had night paralysis once. You know they say, when a spirit pins you down you couldn't move. But people wonder why I don't sleep.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I'm starting to see why you're a conduit to the, the realm of the other side, or something you know, like the lights you see on right now in this room, I leave these lights.

Speaker 2:

That's what I sleep, man, because I I don't mess around in the pitch black dude, I just don't do it, you know yeah, just like in that movie ghost, you're waiting for like shadows to come and pull you into the dark shadows, or something.

Speaker 2:

You'll be gone. That was the worst of the worst, oh my God. Yeah, so it's. You know, my dead dogs are here. Yeah, I can feel them walking on my bed and then I think it's my blind dog. But then I look over and he's still sleeping. But I can feel them walking on the bed because he's asleep on my bed, they sleeping. But I could feel the walking on the bed because I used to sleep in my bed.

Speaker 1:

They're probably looking for some steaks or some rib tips for you. Where did he put those? Where did he put those? I don't care if I'm dead, I want some.

Speaker 2:

So have you had any personal experiences?

Speaker 1:

I was just getting those stories from Merlene and I don't, I can't think of any really offhand.

Speaker 2:

Maybe by the next time we do this I can of some. Well, how about this? If you have a dead grandmother? Yeah, and you you kind of get like a good vibe, like a store or something, yeah, you'd smell your grandmother, you know like it'd be a perfume that they don't even make no more. Yeah, and you smell it and you're like, was that that her? You know like it's like. You know your grandma, she like hugs you all the time. Well, for you know, like a good grandparent, I'll always like hug back in the day. You know you kind of memorize that smell, yeah, and so like, when it happens to you 30, 40 years later and that, like I said, that perfume's gone for like 30 years and you smell it, I mean I haven't had any.

Speaker 1:

Uh 90 year old grandma or women come up to me and smelling like charlie or nothing, then I would be like scared, because I'd be like that was my grandma's hey, welcome that, you know, if it's like a family member.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you know, just kind of like a hey, we, we're here, we watch you. Yeah, I hope they don't really watch me, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Scott, we're here, we're watching you. Stop doing that. You're going to go worse blind than you are, sir.

Speaker 2:

We told you you'd get hairy palms. For God's sakes, the dogs are watching. Stop it. How dare you? You sick puppy? Whose relative are you? You sick puppy? Whose relative are you? Oh yeah, you're just like your grandfather. Oh, look at him, just like you. He comes down smiling, happy. But that's all I got. But, jim, for this episode. We're already like going long, but you know it doesn't matter. We need that quote, man OK. Here's the quote. There's nothing in know it doesn't matter, we need that quote, man Okay.

Speaker 1:

Here's the quote there's nothing in the dark that isn't there when the lights are on. From Rod Serling.

Speaker 2:

That was a cool dude. Yes, I think he has a son that's still living, oh, I don't know.

Speaker 1:

I gotta check. I've pretty much seen almost every Twilight Zone episodes and I think I'm gonna start because they have night gallery on some, uh, streaming services. I think I want to start watching the night gallery ones. I remember as a kid watching a couple of them and it was all in color and technicolor and stuff, but I, I want to start watching them all in order yeah, they have uh on prime video.

Speaker 2:

Twilight zones are all on there and yeah, I think, outer limits and uh, monster, get what's the night gallery night gallery, a lot of those on twilight zone that I know.

Speaker 1:

A lot of those still hold up and they're still like relevant. The message is irrelevant and the way the storytelling was done in black and white there, it's just.

Speaker 2:

It's such amazing television you know I was thinking, man, everybody's remaking stuff in hollywood, no one's original, no more. Yeah and uh, I kind of want to do like the first episode of twilight zone. Just get a group of friends, okay, throw it in like a black and white, uh film mode on the camera, review it tell people, hey, we aren't paying you but it'll be fun. And I think that was the angel episode, the first episode of twilight zone. Yeah, like pitch for the ages or you know, I one for the ages.

Speaker 2:

It's like the person seen the angel but the other one didn't, and yeah, it's. Uh, I just want to remake something old you know, just get a group of friends, just oh, you want to remake it.
