On this episode of the Powers Point Podcast, scott and I have another food review. We're over here in Colbert, indiana, at the Maple and Yolk to see how breakfast is. Hey, scott, hello.
Speaker 2:Welcome to Powerpoint Podcast, season 5, episode 16 or 17. I think it's 17th, so we are in your neck of the woods. Yeah, and you recommended this place and I used to come here too, but under a different ownership. Yeah, and I really like what they do with the place. The place is green. They got like an avocado, like Color on the wall. Yeah, and the brown like really bangs off that color.
Speaker 1:It's real friendly and family and, like the sprite colors it's nice.
Speaker 2:They got, like these marquee breakfast posters on the wall From olden times yeah, from olden times Like'd see in a movie theater or just a regular theater. So, jim and I, we ordered the same thing, well, almost the same thing. We got a full order of biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, links, but the only difference is I added an extra egg and I added some cheese. So, uh, and it came within four minutes.
Speaker 1:Yeah, like a couple minutes. It was fast.
Speaker 2:Like I didn't even have time to like To record. Yes, so far. You know I'm a connoisseur on the distance and gravy and I really enjoy this. I got to say you know like some restaurants have ruined me like around the clock. No, and Patis biscuits are really good, eggs are nice and fluffy. Uh, the bacon's not a like. It's just not a thick apple with bacon but it's just filled like oscar meyer bacon. I'd go and uh, some bob, ed and sausage links it's real good.
Speaker 1:I mean, I know you're I heard you're a biscuits and gravy connoisseur. I'm sure you've been through the worst part with the military. I'm sure they didn't.
Speaker 2:Oh, that was awful.
Speaker 1:You don't want to know what those biscuits and gravy are.
Speaker 2:You know, a lot of people don't know it's like the gravy. It's supposed to be like a melty white sausage gravy but when it's got like a brown tinge to it they pour a little coffee into it to give you a little picnic. A lot of people don't know that. So Jim's sucking down water and he don't even know he's eating coffee and I eat coffee. What have you been up to then? You weren't with us on the last show. Yeah, we missed you. A lot of people realized you were gone.
Speaker 1:I was incognito, I was keeping silent.
Speaker 2:I told people you weren't sitting there.
Speaker 1:You know we weren't ignoring jim, let him know I had some, uh, some function with my son that for school that I had to do. Yesterday we had a what's it called a tour of uh hobert where the kids, his class, I was a chaperone we all walked hobert. It was like five miles worth of walking like there and back to school and uh, it was like five hours. It was crazy.
Speaker 2:So a lot of people don't know where hobert is. It's uh northwest indiana.
Speaker 1:It's in jim's neck of the woods, uh it's written hobart with an a, but ever since I was born it was pronounced pobert right. A lot of people misconceive. Yeah, you could tell.
Speaker 2:If someone's not from here, they'll say hobart so it's like an old town and I'd say built in like it's not a city. They don't classify it as a city. I think it's just a town and it's like an old school. I'd say downtown's like Mayberry to me. Oh my God, you know like you can walk to like so many stores.
Speaker 1:Well, I just learned all the facts about Hobart too, and that the old golden is in there.
Speaker 2:And it's right on the lake, lake George. It's a good title man. It's a nice. There's lots of different restaurants here. There's a really good vinyl record store here. It's even got its own radio station.
Speaker 1:The guy that's working there is Tom Lounge. He owns it. He used to be a radio guy in Chicago.
Speaker 2:Right right, a really good guy, radio guy in Chicago. Right right, a really good guy. So he does like a podcast from in the store, but only heard by the people in the store and he can see you and you can see them. So it's some things never die, man. Old people like being on the mic.
Speaker 1:And then a couple years ago the Art Theater in Holbert used to have movies and stuff. It was real legendary, it was real nice.
Speaker 2:He used to ship movies and stuff. It was real legendary, it was real nice. I used to work for the original owner His name was Kurt Shecky, okay, and I used to be the projectionist and I didn't have any like idea how to do it. He just kind of like showed me how to splice films together. Wow, now, like when a movie came back in the day, they came on little individual rolls, like Titanic, it was 46 reels and then you had to pull them out, cut from what the last theater did and splice it together with this tape and then put it all back on this big reel. And then it's a fish when the movie ran its series. So then you have to cut it off and put it all back on the little reels. Oh my gosh, but it's very cool place. I mean, if you like old, especially at like christmas time or autumn, you know, just walking around a lot of people beat the ducks here and everything. But uh, what have you learned about over that?
Speaker 1:you might not have that this place used to be, he might not have. This place used to be real big in the area back in the end of the 1800s for ballroom dancing. Really, this building? No, they used to have buildings downtown. The second and third floor would have ballrooms and stuff and there would be three to four buildings like that. They barely even had no sports or nothing.
Speaker 2:I was just amazed. There was all room dancing all over the place. And then, just a couple miles outside of downtown, uh, one of the biggest gangsters in the world, uh had his own hideout here, talking about the legendary al capone and uh, when he would did more, when he wanted to stay away from Chicago for a little bit, he'd come right down here.
Speaker 2:It was quick, easy Back then. It was a lot of dirt roads and if you drive by the place it's like the Sunshine Club. You can still see the guard turrets up on the fence, which is kind of cool. Yeah, there's a lot of gangsters, gangsters from around here.
Speaker 1:Oh well, I forgot to mention the Art Theater in Hobart. They stopped showing movies there and the owners a couple years ago made it a concert venue. So they have comedy and music and I thought it wasn't going to work, but the last two years they've gotten a lot of bands to come here that never, ever came here.
Speaker 2:Oh that's where I hung out with Tom Green. Yeah, in between like what they are now and what it was, I started doing the Rocky Horror Picture Show and of course the people reenact what is going on in the theater. You know, on the screen, the teens, they tear things up. They don't care, they just like just throw liquids everywhere. My niece was a part of that when she worked there. It's really good. They remodeled the inside of it. I really like it. Like you said, a lot of bands like Fozzy Friskerical was there. Icp a couple years ago? Yeah, perfect thanks.
Speaker 1:There's a lot going on at Hobbert, you know, co-bar, and there's still some buildings that are still closed. And, like I'm like man, you could put like something else here, another restaurant or some some kind of business, and it would start growing.
Speaker 2:You know, as a kid I used to sneak over here from my mom and dad's. It's my comic book store. It's here called Friendly Franks, oh yeah, and it took a long time to walk here from Light Station. You know, like I said, I was probably 10.
Speaker 1:Throw them in the streets at 10. Throw them in the streets, oh the good old days. Just tell your parents, or like whatever, and just leave.
Speaker 2:So what do you think of the food? I really liked the biscuits.
Speaker 1:It's real good. The coffee must have started getting to you there. I'm woke up now. It's real good and I know that the pricing is not pricey at all. It's a pretty big meal and I don't know if it's going to cost that much Compared to what we were talking about.
Speaker 2:Yeah. Yeah, that was a pro were talking about yeah.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that was a pro-proctor. Scott was being with a highfalutin place. You picked the last one, did I? Oh, yeah, I did. Well, we were derailed from our other place. We were pulled from there.
Speaker 2:Right, right, you know, the Burger House, like I said, was $70 for two of us. We would have blew that out of the water at the Tavern of the Main.
Speaker 1:You'd have half the menu here for $70.
Speaker 2:I mean for what we're eating, it's $12. It's really good. Like I said, the eggs are really yellow, really fluffy. Yeah, so we're going to take a quick commercial. We're going to take a quick commercial home. We're going to take a quick commercial. Then we come back. We're going to talk about what happened at Super Slam this past week to Elio and then our final thoughts. We'll give our ratings in this place and we'll go from there. Okay, so we'll be back after these messages.
Speaker 3:Do you like metal music? Well, you need to listen to Mostly Metal. 103.1 FM WBLP, valparaiso, indiana. The Metal Professor has got your music.
Speaker 2:All right, welcome back. So, jim, you and I were both attended Super Slam yeah At St Mary's Soda Brand Hall and we both participated in it. You had more of an overall view than I had, of course, yeah. So the show started out with a brand new ring announcer. Lynn Marie came out, passed the torch out, and Lynn has been the ring announcer for Backbreaker for Since the beginning. Since the beginning, yeah, but she felt like somebody could be better. So here comes old highfalutin' Big Vince like three feet suit.
Speaker 1:Oh, my God, he's really good on the mic. I saw him and I thought he was going to sell insurance to the wrestlers when I first saw him. I didn't know who he was and the microphone like muffled out right when he said his name so I didn't know. I was guessing his name.
Speaker 2:A lot of people don't know, know, but outside of the ring announcing he does a lot of stuff like college like he sings like really good, really. Yeah, he sings for opening up basketball games. The anthems, oh, okay, uh. And then, speaking of the anthem, the show started with the anthem yeah and uh. You know the crowd was probably about 225, but it was expected, because May really sucks for wrestling.
Speaker 1:And someone told me there was a lot of other outdoor events happening in the area. So I'm like man, it could have been a little bit bigger.
Speaker 2:You got graduation parties, you got weddings in the area. It was a nice day. Surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise. A friend of the of the show, keith, who you've heard on multiple shows, came with his white heather and it was really cool meeting them that shocked me.
Speaker 1:I didn't you. You kept that secret. I didn't know I was. I was floored when I saw keith. I'm like, wow, all the way from toledo. Are you kidding?
Speaker 2:me? Yeah, because Keith likes staying home. You know they Don't get mad, keith, but they almost are recluse.
Speaker 1:Well, he just doesn't. The guy just doesn't like to get out. I mean I don't blame him. I mean what's happened in the world the last couple of years? It just stresses you out.
Speaker 2:Even as they're driving down the street, he was contemplating on just selling another Turn around, turn around and go back home, you know. But it was really weird because he created most of us on WWE 2K24. And when he walked in, he didn't even have to introduce him to anybody. Yeah, he was like oh, johnny, miley, that's hilarious. Oh, trog, oh, you know like. And everybody knew game guys here, you know. Yeah, everybody is super cool with him, except for that Hadley. Well, yeah, hadley says we're using his likeness on the game. It's a $10 million all-in fee, that's hilarious. But you know what was really cool? He made shirts for a lot of the fans and handed them out for free. Yeah, the Special Olympics weightlifters got their own shirt, like Dragon and Big Diesel. I saw one. I'm good thanks.
Speaker 1:Hand out. I saw one that said Powers on it.
Speaker 2:There was a lot of them that said Powers, because I didn't know you had that many shirts on. All right, let's just start off with match one.
Speaker 1:Match one was Adley versus Mr Scott Powers.
Speaker 2:You know I haven't spent since 2014, since I've went against badly and uh, it was crazy and I didn't expect anything less than craziness with them and it was cool.
Speaker 1:You guys look like you were really laying it in there. After a midpoint, you just started really throwing everything at each other you know the the point.
Speaker 2:I was worried about being out of breath because I haven't wrestled by myself in eight or nine years, yes, and I started to get that feeling. But then Hadley slapped me across the face real hard and it woke me up, yep. And then his whole animation with, like, the crowd and his you know like. If you watch the video on YouTube it looks like an old slapstick comedy. There's no audio for the first two matches and the way he's jumping around clicking his heels.
Speaker 1:Yeah, he did like a leprechaun heel click or something. I was like what the?
Speaker 2:heck, you know. So it's kind of hard not to laugh, but still in a whiff of ass in the same time.
Speaker 1:Wow, that's pretty amazing.
Speaker 3:You know, so it's kind of hard not to laugh.
Speaker 2:But still in a whiff of ass in the same time.
Speaker 3:Wow, that's pretty amazing.
Speaker 2:Of course, one of my worst nightmares or whatever. But Universal Bombers started running to the ring when I had Hadley where I wanted him. Yeah, I had him in the sleeper hold. I've seen Universal Bomber run into the ring. I threw Hadley aside. Bomber never got in. He rolled me up, he distracted you, grabbed my belt and then thinned me.
Speaker 1:So he had the old distraction and then all of a sudden Hadley saw an opportunity and he took it. To make it worse, is Hadley pulled up on your belt just to make sure that fin was in the ref? Didn't see? It Got the victory.
Speaker 2:Overall, I really enjoyed that match, except the end.
Speaker 1:Yeah. Then the next match was Richie Rothschild versus Dick Davis for the number one contendership.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and whoever won would go against Dave Allen in a future show.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:So before the match, a video came out that you and I both seen at the same time, and it showed Dick Davis walking into the hall and then Rothschild was standing in front of Oak Punisher, feeding him up behind him with the chain. Yanked him down on the ground. Drug him off. Then you see Kudrow Motley in the background laughing. Dick Davis disappeared.
Speaker 1:All of a sudden, dick Davis is nowhere to be found. Everybody at the Hildebrand Halls wait for him. The referee don't know what's going on. They're calling his name and he's not coming out. So finally they just had to count to ten and then, when he didn't make it, richie was declared the winner, number one contender. But that didn't stop there, because all of a sudden, flawless Dave Allen, the champion, came out, started screaming at Rothschild and then hit him with the flawless victory and I don't know what he's saying.
Speaker 2:Determined, he said you want to do this. He don't have an opponent. Rothschild don't have an opponent.
Speaker 1:Let's just do this tonight so then, so that's set up for later on. In the night where richie rothschild fought the flawless dave allen for the championship, he said you want to be number one contender, let's go.
Speaker 2:So he didn't have time to prepare for that one. Yeah, you know it's shockingly, dave's always prepared, but we'll talk more about that, like you said, in just a little bit here. So the next match was a big fan favorite. You had now bad guy Johnny Motley, the Sunset Strip move. St Son, no, not that one Move the third, thomas Keith. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1:Well, did we do anything else today? Guys, I'm going to leave that. I'm not going anywhere. I'll be back to check on you and Grandpa.
Speaker 2:Thank you, I'm sorry. Yeah, it's something. No, I got it. Oh, I got it.
Speaker 1:I got it. I got it. We're going to fight right here. I'll slap you with some biscuits. I got it, man, I ain't biting you. No, I got faith my wife will beat me up if I don't fight. Look no, show him. Let's go over this, we'll talk about it. Warm wrestles Thomas Keith with King Bischoff versus Gabe the Brave War it, thomas.
Speaker 3:Keith with King Bishop versus Gabe the.
Speaker 2:Brave Juarez, this one we've probably seen one of the worst moves in wrestling history. Look at that. Because they were both going to take off their signature top, and Thomas did. They turned around and got the nipple vice. Like he's a brave, they really held up the double and threw them no by his nipples. I thought Keith was going to be hanging low after that with his nips. You know, you had Tully out there, you had KB out there. Everything was stacked against KB.
Speaker 1:Yeah, the legacy champion, gabe the Brave. But, KB prevailed, was stacked against, gave yeah, the legacy champion, gave the brave, but gave prevail just was taking the beating, taking the beating and then just like, finally got mad and he, uh, what was that tackle? He did that indigenous people tackle or something? Indigenous pounds, pounds, that's it and that got him to victory. I mean, kb and Tully did a little shenanigans during the match, speaking like KB. What's this? Oh my gosh, this dipped in. That is beautiful, that is awesome, that is magical. Look at that.
Speaker 2:So our friend Keith, who we just talked about, just sent me a picture of KD he's doing great.
Speaker 1:Really I'm laughing. Oh my God, that's him Freaking amazing, some menacing stuff there.
Speaker 2:If you guys want to see what we talked about. And you have the WWE 2K24 game just hashtag Backbreaker Wrestling. And you have the WWE 2K24 game just hashtag Backbreaker Wrestling and you can download all your favorite Backbreaker beef. Wow, dude, I can't stop looking. That is like perfect, oh man.
Speaker 1:You gotta give a manager like evil things to do and stuff. You can have them in the game.
Speaker 2:Wow, thank you Sorry about that. So he gave the brief, ended up winning. The next match that one you said was Johnny Motley taking on Matt Duar- you know, ever since Motley turned his back on the fans, everything was up in the air. I mean hanging out with a bunch of people, kujo Punisher and Richie Rothschild, so like the numbers game was there.
Speaker 1:You know, like we said, but this one was pretty much Johnny and Duar just having a real technical and high-flying match. They were just going all out Because one of them after winning this, if one of them beat the other, that sets them up for almost a title shot coming up.
Speaker 2:Right right. So it went back and forth. You know, when you've got these two athletes with that caliber of fitness, it went back and forth.
Speaker 1:Pretty much all the way. At the end, matt Duar came out victorious. He did like a I can't remember the move, darn it. He hit a like oh that, uh, it almost looked like that uh. When Naito in New Japan does that uh.
Speaker 3:It's an echelon.
Speaker 1:Before he grabs the head and he flips back and stuff with it and drives it in the ground in the mat. It's like a German Destino or something. Don't start me lying. Okay, he did something. It was like this flipping over Johnny's head, he caught him. He turned around and caught him with it and got the pin. So DeWaar, victorious. Johnny was pretty upset. The next match, however, didn't they have intermission or something.
Speaker 2:Yeah, intermission, and we brought two people in the ring Big Diesel and I forget what the little guy's name is, old Diesel, I don't know. It was their birthday, so we celebrated. It was cool, man, the fans, for people, I think it's just like a bathroom break. It's your time to meet people, your favorite wrestlers, and talk to them. So that was pretty cool. But then, after the intermission, the championship match Heavyweight championship.
Speaker 1:There Everybody was waiting for Richie Wildchild versus Wallace Dave Allen, the champion.
Speaker 2:What surprised me here is Richie walked out with his crowd, his little gang of woodlums, yeah, and he told them just to stop. Stop and just turn around and go back to the locker room. He could do it, you know. So right there I thought well, definitely this is in Dave's favor now. Yeah, because Dave and him used to go at it with each other back in the day, so they know each other real well, yeah.
Speaker 1:It didn't happen like that, no.
Speaker 2:And if you watch the video, the crowd goes silent because it feels like the Undertaker losing for the first time in the streak. Like it went silent.
Speaker 1:There was a Nobody could believe it. All of a sudden, Richie hit it. What did he hit? I can't remember.
Speaker 2:You know I never get to look at their moves. All right, so the Gypsy King won. The Gypsy King won and we were heavyweight champion.
Speaker 1:And then, all of a sudden, richie won and your new backbreaker, wrestling heavyweight Champion, richie Rothstein. Like you said, the fans were stunned. It was like when the Undertaker lost, everybody was just standing there. They couldn't believe it and they were screaming no and I thought they were going to start throwing things.
Speaker 2:Yeah, because Richie fizzles off a lot of people. That's number five. What do we got?
Speaker 1:That was five. Number six was Tully Bertarelli versus Trog the Caveman, the Battle of the Volcanics.
Speaker 2:Here we got two big men and from what I heard man, it took Trog about four months. They can't hear on his dinosaurs, we haven't seen them In a while. And you had the strong man Tully Got it.
Speaker 1:With KB King Bishop with him, it was like moving mountains. They were just slapping each other, headbutting and just going haymakers and forearms. It was crazy.
Speaker 2:And I didn't get to see the end of that one.
Speaker 1:What's his name? Kb took Trog's good luck charm. Most people have a rabbit split. He has like a human femur or something, I don't know what he has, and that distracted him and then Tully would start beating him up on the outside and then on the inside. Pretty much I think it was just like a slam or something, or like he caught Trog off guard, or after a couple hits moves he finally got the pin.
Speaker 2:Oh no, that was a good match. And then the main event, the main event was the tag team.
Speaker 1:No, but I didn't put it at one, so I don't know if Tully won or Trog won.
Speaker 2:Oh, trog got hurt, he did.
Speaker 1:Okay, I wasn't sure.
Speaker 2:So during the match, at one point Tully hurt Trog and he even had to be helped out of the ring. So your winner was Tully. Her shrug and he even had to be helped out of the ring. So your winner Tully.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and then the main events. The champions D&D Tag team champions versus Cujo and the Punisher.
Speaker 2:Anytime you have the Punisher on the scene, and I know Cujo's too, not this version of Kudro, but they're dangerous. But then again, d&d aren't champions, for no reason.
Speaker 1:They remind me of the Nasty Boys Kind of the modern day Nasty Boys D&D. That sounds like. Cartman Punisher is a long time veteran and he got his name for what he does he punishes people. And then you got Cujo, who most people don't know who he is. He's not all there, he's talking to himself you don't know which political personalities or something, and you can't trust him. He's a wild card. You could put those two together against the champs. That was a fight.
Speaker 2:And then in the end, pretty much D&D won D&D.
Speaker 1:They overcame the odds. Oh no, you know what happened. I remember now Punisher was going to use brass nuts. The referee was distracted. All of a sudden out of the ring, running around the ring was Joey Rancid and he took the knuckles out of Punisher's hand and then Punisher got dropped by D&D. And then what else happened? Fans like really they were going crazy, because then that turned into a double team move that pinned Kujo and then Punisher was chasing Joey Rancid out of the ring and Richie came out all mad and angry. But your winner is D&D. Capital Titles.
Speaker 2:So the third show of Backbreakers did not disappoint. No. So the next show is June 28th 29th Let me just verify that the last Saturday of June, the 29th, at Under the Lights 3, cedar Lake, indiana baseball field for the Little League. It's always a great show. I've participated in the first two and I really look forward to see what's going to be happening with number three. Are you going to be going?
Speaker 1:I will. I'll check my schedule, but I should be able to go.
Speaker 2:This will be your first what.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that baseball field. But I have commentated on the baseball field before.
Speaker 2:Right, right for Fire Probe. Yeah, but nobody came to that. He rules them, gary. Yeah, he's like black, you know, in that area. So we're going to take a quick commercial and then, when we come back, we're going to give our ratings to this restaurant.
Speaker 3:Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you want good wrestling. You want wrestling that's family-friendly and fun to watch. Well, look no further than Backbreaker Wrestling. Go to Facebookcom slash Backbreaker Wrestling and follow all the great action here in Northwest indiana again we are at maple and yoke in hobert, indiana.
Speaker 2:this is the first time I've been here since they've changed the ownership. Yes, I described what the building looked like on the inside at the beginning. Let me tell you about the cleanliness here. Super like I'm looking, that's a floor and that's like a hard. It's thick, lumber floor. Yeah, that's why it looks really good. So, anything that's on the floor you'd be able to see. I don't see anything. No garbage, no crumbs, you know. So the food was great. It was fast. Yeah, we had a good server. We didn't run out of anything. She was here several times, several times. So all in all, out of a ten, I think it was a nine. Yeah, I'm going to give it a nine too. And the price is great. You're not going to break the bank coming here. No, the price is real good. So that's our episode of our restaurant. But before we leave, jim, people are like on the edge of their seats All five of them, my mom hasn't listened yet.
Speaker 1:Here's the quote Receive without pride. Let go without attachment. Think about it.
Speaker 2:That's a good one too, but we're glad that you stayed here. We hope you enjoyed it and if you're in the area, give this place a try. I like it, so we'll talk to you next week. No-transcript.
