Scott Powers and Lynn Marie Season 4 Episode 21

Reflect on the passing of wrestling legends Adrian Street, Terry Funk, and Bray Wyatt with us. This episode is a tribute to these greats, as we retrace their remarkable careers and the legacies they left behind. I, your host, will share some cherished personal anecdotes from my time as Terry Funk's security guard, giving you an unexpected insight into the man behind the wrestling persona. We also take a moment to remember the tragically short life of the innovative Bray Wyatt and reflect on the unpredictability of life itself.

But it's not all somber reflections. We're also sharing our love for wrestling games and we're introducing an incredible gamer, Letter Kenny Wrestling, who has crafted the Letter Kenny cast in WWE 2K23 with breathtaking accuracy. Plus, we're opening up an exciting opportunity for you to co-host the show with me! We tease an upcoming event by Backbreaker Wrestling in Griffith, Indiana, and I share my ambitions to compete and secure my first title shot in the promotion. So get ready for a wrestling-packed episode that promises to be both an emotional roller-coaster and a celebration of the sport we all love. Also on this episode, I finish with a piano sonata called A Part of Me

Speaker 2:

I know you're gonna dig this.

Speaker 3:

This is what you have been waiting for, and now we're starting the podcast in five, four, three, two, one.

Speaker 2:

Well, hello, hello, welcome to the Powers Point podcast, season four, episode 21. Late getting the episode out, but hey, I'm getting it out. So a lot going on this week, we lost three wrestling legends in the last two weeks, Adrian Street, one of them from the UK, who was a pioneer at his character, was like fancy, kind of like prima donna, check him out. Also, in the last two days we've lost hardcore legend Terry Funk. He was 79 years old and this guy did a lot for wrestling.

Speaker 2:

I meant if you watch wrestling and you go back to the 70s, you see Terry, you see his brother, dory, who, I'm proud to say both were born like 10 minutes away in Hammond, Indiana, and moved to Texas where they established a double cross ranch, which I think is a super cool name. He was 79 and he was sick the last couple months. You know you could see a decline in his health. But the one that is a super shock to the wrestling world is the loss of Wyndham Rotondo, otherwise known as Bray Wyatt, who was a wrestling genius. He had so many creative ideas and you loved watching character that character pulled you into the TV. His fans were called the fireflies and it's amazing, but he was 36 years old and that hits home. You know. You wonder why people like him leave us so early when Ill throw, like Ric Flair, 24 partying whose been on death's door three or four times and he's going strong but yet we lose someone like Bray.

Speaker 2:

It's, it's shocking. And he was in the prime. You know he disappeared Wr estlemania before He was supposed to have a match with with Bobby Lashley and that got scrapped for health reasons and injury and I guess he's been Rumor has it that he had coronavirus last in like January, and it like effect, it caused like an infection and Messed up his heart and yeah, you know it can all be rumors, but the it has been Said by TMZ and the news that he did pass Because of a heart attack. Yeah, we are praying for you, Bray's wife and kids and the world is morning. The wrestling world is morning his loss, Terry Funk thoughts with the family and morning his loss, as well as Adrienne's.

Speaker 2:

Hey, it's been a it's been a rough, rough week and a half, you know, and I I got to be Terry funk's personal security guard, which is crazy. Yeah, I was his personal security guard and you know, when I got to tag along with them for the day, I Got to sit and talk with him about. You know, you as a wrestler, I like to sit and kind of pick the legends mind and hear stories you know from days of old and thoughts and every time that I would ask something. If, if it was a good question, you could see this gleam and Terry's eye and he was so proud of the accomplishments, and I think he was proud. You know that someone who's 20 something years, 29 years younger than him Still can recall the things that he did in the ring and I also got to him when He wrestled it for the wrestling promotion that I was in in NWWA. He had one of his retirement matches against my mentor and the person that created Scott Powers and he was an all around nice guy man. He was so different than his like mean outlaw TV persona and uh, yeah, I will always, always cherish the moments.

Speaker 2:

And, like everybody's saying, you don't know when your time's up, you know whether you're young, you're old, you never know. So don't go to bed angry at your fiance, your fiance, your girlfriend, your wife, your mom, your dad. Man, let it go, you know, because tomorrow's not guaranteed. Hell, a few minutes from now isn't guaranteed. You know I could shut this microphone off and then get up, and I can. You know, as morbid as it sounds, you never know when it's your time. So, man, tell your your family you love them.

Speaker 2:

hug them just a little bit tighter. Again, you know my heart goes out to these, these three gentlemen, and never be forgotten. And if you get time, go to YouTube and look them up and see their work. It was amazing all three of them. So when we come back I will try to get back on track here. But I just want to get that off my mind. And I'm also gonna play a new song by an artist called Miracle. It's called A Part of Me and it's a piano sonata, sonata, whatever. It's a piano suite, so it's really cool, it's calm, so I really hope you enjoy that. So sit back, we'll be back, or I'll be back after these messages.

Speaker 2:

All right. So last week I put out a shoddy episode. You know it was just kind of thrown together, pieced together and it was just one of those things. But at the end of that show I did say if anybody wanted to be like, just jump on and co-host with me for a show or two. I had a few people respond to it and one of them will be on with me next week.

Speaker 2:

If you like playing video games like PlayStation 5 or Xbox One and you play the wrestling games like WWE 2K23, there is a creator. He goes by name Letter Kenny Wrestling on Twitter and he creates the Letter Kenny cast and puts them in the game. And these characters that he created are amazing. They look like the real, real deal. I'm at Jared Castle, who plays Wayne. You can make him your heavyweight champion. Or Squirrely Dan he could be in there in a tag team with Derry. Or Kitty Cat could be the women's champion. They're all there. So look up Letter Kenny on the hashtags in the WWE 2K23. And download them and let them know on Twitter again, letter Kenny wrestling that what they're doing is amazing. So we are going to be talking to them next Friday or Saturday I haven't Come up with an exact date yet, but I really look forward to talking to them.

Speaker 2:

Awesome people, yeah, again tomorrow, saturday, august 26,. So well, it is August 26. It just turned after midnight. But Griffith, indiana, northwest Indiana.

Speaker 2:

If you're looking for something new, to do Something different, if you've never been to an independent promotion wrestling, honestly go. I mean, of course, there are some bad promotions out there, but there are some promotions like backbreaker wrestling who I work for that have amazing, amazing shows. The promoter, sean Spinks. He is like a visionary in wrestling. He, he could see things up to like a year in advance. And you know, with ideas, stories, creations, you know, if one wrestlers character isn't going good, he helps you get a new one and and that person Reinvents themselves off of Sean's, sean's idea. So sorry, I'm trying to be quiet here too, because the family is sleeping and and. So if it sounds weird, right, I, it's, it's weird. I'm not gonna edit this. It's it's who I am. I make mistakes. So Again, that's backbreaker wrestling at st Mary's Hilda Brandt Hall, on the ropes, 20 people, 25 people are all gonna Be in this match to start off and then every couple minutes, another, another wrestler enters the ring and whoever wins this match.

Speaker 2:

You have to throw your opponents over the rope. Their feet have to touch the floor. The winner gets a title shot at Mega Clash in October. And I'm involved in this match and I'm gonna give it my all to make sure that I go through, wherever I come in at, you know, and get that title shot. I've never had a title shot in back break wrestling but I'm gonna give it. Like I said, I'm gonna do my damnedest to make sure I'm the last person in that ring.

Speaker 2:

There's other matches announced to. Cade. Lee is stepping in for his first singles match in a few years, going against the heavyweight champion Lewis Rojas. This is a match that is going to be pretty hard hitting Cade has been like losing weight in the gym and in wrestling practice. You know he's just pushing himself to make himself a better person. You know in that ring and I know how he is because he and I used to be a tag team called Law and Order. Yeah, we worked for Fire Pro Wrestling and you know, then things happened and we got broke up as a team and him and I got the team up again at the last show, under the lights too. And man, this dude is going to kill it in the ring tomorrow.

Speaker 2:

So if you are in the area, come by. Tickets are cheap, man, you're not gonna break the bank. We are very family, fun, family friendly, no swearing, and you know what the best part is. If you're in the audience and you're just having a bad week, a bad day, maybe you're super pissed off at the office or pissed off at some guy that cut you off and whatever it is that you're pissed off about and you need the vent. You can come to a wrestling show, yell all you want in people's faces you know the wrestlers and get it off your system, get it off your chest and just let it out and nobody's gonna think anything about it, because they're gonna be yelling at just as well. I know because I had 400 people chatting asshole when I was a manager for upper class. The best thing that they ever did for me is fire me from that group, because after that everything went downhill for them and yeah makes me happy.

Speaker 2:

Now I'm back as the All-American, Scott Powers, the flag waving, baby kissing, hands shaking. You know, at intermission times it's really cool there because the wrestlers come out and you get to meet them and it's not just hey, buy my shirt or buy my picture. No, no, if you want a picture with anybody, you get that picture with that person, you know. So we've had a lot of non-wrestling fans come to a show just because it was something different, and then they walked away, wrestling fans, and they were excited. They wanted to come to the next show. So I hope, in turn, that you're a non-wrestling fan looking for something different and you too get excited over what you're seeing. It's a good time. Honestly, it makes a difference when the locker room is just good, you know, and I couldn't work for a better promotion and I've never worked for a better promotion than Backbreaker.

Speaker 2:

But all right, guys, I'm going to cut this one short as well. Just like I said earlier make up with whoever you've gotten into an argument with close to you. You know. Don't go to bed angry, bite the bullet, say you're sorry. You know I find it hard to say that sometimes you know an argument, but, man, I honestly, I don't know what I'd do without my wife Karen, and , she's pulled me out of holes, you know, and she'll never know how much I appreciate her, and even though I tell her every day, but I feel like I don't tell her enough.

Speaker 2:

So, again, don't go to bed angry, don't hold grudges and stay mad at each other because you don't know what, how much time you have left. I mean, this life's quick, it's fun, you know. Make the most of it while you can, between your birthday and your death date, make an example of yourself. You know, make it so you get something out of life and don't just sit on the couch watching TV. Get on out there and, you know, make a difference out, be kind to people. You know this world is actually it's turning into a big shit hole, with everybody fighting countries, wars. If you don't like what's going on, be the difference. That's all I'm saying. So, again, this show has been pretty mellow and I look forward to next week with our Letter.

Speaker 2:

Kenny Wrestling creator. I don't even know their name, I just know their Twitter tag or, I'm sorry, not Twitter, no more their X tag. So, but looking forward to talking with them about, how they do the creating and how much time it takes to create each character, from what you see in pictures to taking them and putting them in a game. So again, check them out. Letter Kenny wrestling on X, and I'll see you guys later, in a much happier mood, hopefully. And if you show up tomorrow to the wrestling show, make sure you say hi, I would love to get to meet you guys. So until then, my friends, love you all.

Speaker 1:

Have a good night
